Neural decoders that restore working memory in cortical circuits

Working memory is fragile and, when it fails, disabling. We record from a high-channel-count cortical array and train decoders that identify working-memory representations as they form.

By reinforcing those representations through targeted stimulation, we restore performance on a memory-dependent task in a preclinical model. The result is early but points toward interfaces that assist cognition rather than merely observe it.
